Development of domestic packaging machinery industry. Before liberation, my country's packaging machinery industry was basically blank. Most products did not need packaging, and only a few products were packaged manually, so there was no mention of packaging mechanization. Only a few large cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, and Guangzhou had beer and soda filling machines and cigarette small packaging machines imported from Britain and the United States.

Entering the 1980s, due to the rapid development of the national economy, the continuous expansion of foreign trade, and the obvious improvement of people's living standards, the requirements for product packaging became higher and higher, and there was an urgent need for packaging to be mechanized and automated, which greatly promoted the development of the packaging machinery industry. The packaging machinery industry occupies an increasingly important position in the national economy. In order to promote the faster development of the packaging machinery industry, my country has successively established a number of management agencies and industry organizations. The China Packaging Technology Association was established in December 1980, the Packaging Machinery Committee of the China Packaging Technology Association was established in April 1981, and the China Packaging Corporation was established later.

Since the 1990s, the packaging machinery industry has grown at an average rate of 20% to 30% per year, which is 15% to 17% higher than the average growth rate of the entire packaging industry and 4.7 percentage points higher than the average growth rate of the traditional machinery industry. The packaging machinery industry has become an indispensable and very important emerging industry in my country's national economy.

There are about 1,500 enterprises engaged in the production of packaging machinery in my country, of which nearly 400 are enterprises of a certain scale. There are 40 categories and more than 2,700 kinds of products, including a number of high-quality products that can meet the needs of the domestic market and participate in international market competition. At present, my country's packaging machinery industry has a number of backbone enterprises with strong development capabilities, which are mainly composed of the following aspects: some strong mechanical factories that have undergone technological transformation and produce packaging machinery; military-to-civilian enterprises and township enterprises with a high level of development. In order to improve the technical level of the packaging machinery industry, a number of packaging machinery research institutes and information institutes have been established across the country, and some colleges and universities have successively established packaging engineering majors, which provide a strong technical guarantee for the development of my country's packaging machinery industry and to catch up with the world's advanced level as soon as possible.

Although my country's packaging machinery industry is developing rapidly, there is still a big gap compared with developed countries in terms of product variety, technical level and product quality. Developed countries have already applied high-tech technologies such as microcomputer control, laser technology, artificial intelligence, optical fiber, image sensing, industrial robots, etc. to packaging machinery, while these high-tech technologies have just begun to be adopted in my country's packaging machinery industry; my country's packaging machinery product variety gap is about 30% to 40%; there is a certain gap in the performance and appearance quality of packaging machinery products. Therefore, we must take strong measures to further accelerate the development of the packaging machinery industry and strive to catch up with the world's advanced level as soon as possible.
